Ludhiana: Ludhiana MP (Rajya Sabha) Sanjeev Arora said that Air India has confirmed to him that flight operations will start from Halwara airport in the future. MP Arora’s Mutahik Air India’s Group Head- GRC and Corporate Affairs P Balaji has informed him through his letter dated January 8 that Air India will start flight operations to Halwara airport after AAI officially gives the go-ahead and obtains all the necessary regulatory approvals.

Balaji has told Arora that this new development is an exciting milestone in our efforts to expand connectivity in Punjab, which will benefit both business and tourism sectors. In his letter to Arora, Balaji has written that we deeply appreciate your continued support and commitment to the advancement of India’s aviation infrastructure.

Arora had written a letter on December 6, 2024 requesting early confirmation of flight operations from Halwara to Balaji. He said this in the context of his discussions with Natarajan Chandrasekaran (Chairman, Tata Sons and Air India). This was followed by a high-level meeting in Gurgaon on August 14, 2024, which was attended by Kartikeya Bhatt, Moin, Piyush Kharbanda, Shashi Chetia.

The Air India team visited Ludhiana on August 29 last year to interact with representatives of industries and various local groups to study the feasibility of flight operations. The team included Manish Puri (Sales Head-India), Kartikeya Bhatt (AVP Network Planning) and Gaurav Khanna.

The team saw great potential in the Delhi Halwara route, especially for international and industry passengers. This flight will serve the entire Malwa region of Punjab. According to Arora, by contacting Air India, we will be able to get the required permissions from the concerned agencies soon.

He further wrote that the people of Ludhiana are eagerly waiting for the resumption of civilian flight operations from the city and Air India’s confirmation will give them the much-needed reassurance.
