Fake Degree Case in Solan: ED attaches seven properties worth over Rs 5 crore of accused

Investigation revealed that accused Rajkumar Rana, Chairman of Manav Bharti University, with the help of his wife Ashoni Kanwar and son Mandeep Rana and other co-accused, took money from agents / students and sold fake degrees in the name of Manav Bharti University Solan.

Solan: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Shimla has attached seven immovable properties worth Rs 5.80 crore of accused Ashoni Kanwar in the fake degree case related to Manav Bharti University Solan. These properties are located in Himachal, Haryana and Delhi. The ED started the investigation on the basis of three FIRs registered at Dharmpur police station in Solan.

Investigation revealed that accused Rajkumar Rana, Chairman of Manav Bharti University, with the help of his wife Ashoni Kanwar and son Mandeep Rana and other co-accused, took money from agents / students and sold fake degrees in the name of Manav Bharti University Solan. The accused earned Rs 387 crore from this. With this money, Rana, Ashoni and Mandeep purchased various movable and immovable properties in various states in their name and in the name of other related entities.

The Indy had filed a prosecution complaint against 14 persons including Rana, Ashoni, Mandeep and two others before the Special Court (PMLA) Shimla. The Special Court took cognizance in the case on January 4, 2023. According to the ED, after the FIR was registered against Manav Bharti University, Ashoni and Mandeep fled the country. Earlier in this case, on 29 January 2021, the ED had confiscated movable and immovable assets worth Rs 194.14 crore.
