New Delhi: Indira Gandhi Bhawan’ 9A, Kotla Road, New Delhi This is the new address of the Congress Party. Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge along with other party leaders inaugurated it on Wednesday.
The party has changed its address after about 46 years. Earlier the old office was 24, Akbar Road. The foundation stone of the new office was laid by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi in 2009.
It is 500 meters away from the BJP headquarters. It cost Rs 252 crore to build it. The BJP office was built in one and a half years. Congress leader Kamal Nath had said in 2019 – BJP headquarters is built in 700 crores.
BJP is building 768 offices across the country. Of these, 563 offices are ready, while work is going on on 96. BJP President JP Nadda gave this information in August last year.
Entry point changed for the second time because of BJP
The main entrance of the new Congress office has been changed from the back door, not the front. The reason for this is BJP. Actually, the front entrance of the office is on Deendayal Upadhyay Marg. In such a situation, this name would have come on the address, so instead of the front entrance, the party chose the backdoor entry, which opens on Kotla Road.
In the 70s, the Congress office was on Dr. Rajendra Prasad Road. Its address was 3, Raisina Road. Atal Bihari Vajpayee used to live right in front of it at 6, Raisina Road, so Congress chose the backdoor entry here too.
After the split in the Congress in 1978, the office was shifted to the bungalow 24, Akbar Road allotted to party MP G Venkatswami. Since then, this has been the address of the Congress headquarters.
The Supreme Court had directed to change the office
The Supreme Court had directed all parties to change their offices due to overcrowding in Lutyens Zone. After this, BJP was the first to make its office on Deendayal Upadhyay Marg in 2018.
Congress also found its new place in the neighbourhood of BJP. Former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath had said that BJP has spent Rs 700 crore in building the office.
