Fatehgarh Sahib: All the lawyers of Punjab will be on strike today in protest against the attack on an advocate in Fatehgarh Sahib. This is the third time that the lawyers of the state are stopping work demanding justice. The case pertains to the Amloh Municipal Council elections, where Advocate Hasan Singh was attacked.
The incident took place when Advocate Hasan Singh, who is a member of the Khanna and Samrala Bar Association, was present at the polling station. Mani Birring, brother of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Gurinder Singh Gary Birring, and his associates allegedly attacked the advocate. The attackers hit him on the head with the butt of a revolver and also attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, after which he was admitted to the hospital.
The lawyers wrote a letter to the Punjab DGP and also met the SSP, who had assured action. But no FIR has been registered yet. The lawyers allege that the police are not taking action due to political pressure.
Today, all the heads of the Bar Associations of Punjab will assemble in Fatehgarh Sahib and decide the future strategy. Khanna’s lawyers have been on strike for the last 31 days. Meanwhile, the MLA and his brother are calling all these allegations baseless and calling it a political conspiracy.
