Ludhiana: Teachers’ strike at DAV College, protested against the government

He said that the irresponsible attitude of the department's bureaucracy is putting the higher education system of Punjab in crisis.

Teachers have started a two-day sit-in protest under the banner of Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU) at DAV College, Jagraon, Ludhiana. The teachers are raising their voice against the indifferent attitude of the Punjab government and the Higher Education Department.

Executive member of PCCTU Dr Varun Goyal said that the union leadership had met Higher Education Secretary KK Yadav and Director Sanyam Aggarwal in 2024 and put forth their demands, but no action has been taken so far. He said that the irresponsible attitude of the department’s bureaucracy is putting the higher education system of Punjab in crisis.

According to local unit president Dr Kunal Mehta, the major demands include fixation of pay scale of college teachers under the revised 7th Pay Commission. He said that files have been pending in the department for more than a year.

The teachers have also raised the issue of alleged corruption in the file clearance process. The teachers involved in the sit-in say that the protest will continue till their demands are met. PCCTU representatives have warned that if the government continues to ignore their demands, they will intensify their protests in the coming days.
