Jammu: A bomb threat targeting the main Republic Day parade in Jammu, J&K, was confirmed as a hoax, according to officials. The threat was received via email late Saturday evening, just hours before the parade was set to begin at the Maulana Azad Memorial (MAM) Stadium.

In response, authorities initiated a thorough search operation at the stadium and surrounding areas on Sunday morning, which ultimately found no explosives or any evidence to support the threat.

The threatening email was sent to various departmental email accounts, including those of the higher education secretary and director. Multiple bomb disposal teams were deployed, and extensive searches were conducted throughout the night in the presence of senior police officials.

In light of this incident, a special team has been formed to track down and apprehend the individual(s) responsible for sending the email. J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha is set to unfurl the national flag and take the salute at the parade, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah serving as the chief guest.

Heightened security measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of the Republic Day celebrations in J&K, marking the first such event after an elected government took office following peaceful Legislative Assembly elections. Last year, both Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections occurred in J&K, overseen by diplomats from several countries.

In the Valley, the main divisional-level Republic Day parade will take place at Bakshi Stadium, where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary is expected to preside over the festivities. Ministers and District Development Council (DDC) chairpersons will also be present at celebrations held across various district headquarters.
