Prayagraj: On Wednesday, the Railways will operate 360 trains across various stations in Prayagraj district to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims for Mauni Amavasya, a significant bathing day during the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela. Among these, 190 special trains are scheduled, and officials have confirmed that no special trains will be canceled.

Satish Kumar, Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, mentioned that extensive measures have been taken to manage the unprecedented number of devotees. On January 14, Indian Railways had already operated 132 to 135 special trains in anticipation of this surge. For Mauni Amavasya, which is considered the most auspicious day of the Maha Kumbh 2025, train services have been ramped up significantly to ensure that trains run every four minutes, providing seamless travel for millions of pilgrims.

As of 6 am on Wednesday, around 17.5 million devotees had taken their holy dips at Triveni Sangam, bringing the total to approximately 199.4 million by January 28, according to the Uttar Pradesh government.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared a message on social media advising pilgrims to bathe at the nearest ghats and to adhere to administrative guidelines for maintaining order. He emphasized not to heed any rumors and noted that bathing is ongoing at all the ghats.

This announcement follows a “stampede-like” situation early Wednesday, though Special Executive Officer Akanksha Rana assured that the situation was under control and the injured were receiving medical attention. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are closely monitoring the situation and have promised full support from the Centre.

Meanwhile, the Akharas, which initially decided to cancel the Amrit Snan, have commented that they will proceed with their holy dips later in the day as crowds have reduced at their ghats.
