Jalandhar: Continuing its efforts to curb drug smuggling in Jalandhar the CIA Staff of Jalandhar Rural Police has arrested two drug smugglers and recovered 100 grams of heroin from their possession on Wednesday, officials said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that the arrested accused have been identified as Karan Kumar alias Karan (22), son of Kulwinder, resident of Ward No. 09, Mohalla Chadi Patti Begowal, PS Begowal, District Kapurthala, and Hansdeep Singh alias Nikka (21), son of Ranjit Singh, resident of Mohalla Arfanwala, PS City Kapurthala, District Kapurthala.
SSP Khakh said that following specific intelligence inputs, a special operation was conducted on January 27, 2025, under the supervision of SP Investigation Mrs. Jasroop Kaur, IPS, and DSP Investigation Mr. Sarvanjit Singh. Inspector Pushap Bali, In-charge CIA Staff Jalandhar Rural, led the operation which resulted in this significant drug seizure.
“Acting on credible information about a drug delivery in the Kartarpur area, a special team under SI Nirmal Singh was dispatched,” said SSP Khakh. “The team intercepted an Alto car (PB09-AM-3189) near Maharaja Hotel, approximately 100 meters from Bhulath Mor, Kartarpur. The accused attempted to flee into the hotel but were successfully apprehended by the alert police team.”
During the search of the vehicle, police recovered 100 grams of heroin concealed in a wax-wrapped packet on the car’s dashboard. The contraband was weighed using an electronic scale at the spot.
SSP Khakh said that both accused have previous criminal records and were out on bail at the time of arrest. “The accused have been remanded to two days police custody. Their interrogation is expected to reveal crucial information about their forward and backward links in the drug trade,” he added.
A case FIR No. 17 dated 27.01.2025 has been registered under sections 21B-61-85 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Kartarpur, District Jalandhar-Rural.
