Party sources say that Sukhu camp is putting forward the name of Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi for the post of president. Sanjay Awasthi has also been the working president of the state Congress in the past. If there is no consensus on Awasthi, then the name of either minister Rohit Thakur or Anirudh can be put forward for the post of president. For this, one minister will have to be dropped from the cabinet.

For the post of president, Kuldeep Rathore is the choice of some top leaders in the high command. Rathore has been the state Congress president in the past and is currently the MLA from Theog. Sources say that the party high command wants a president who can rein in the government. For this, the high command considers Rathore the best option. Kuldeep Rathore is considered an opponent of the Sukhu camp.
