Bhopal: In a tragic incident, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan allegedly shot his wife and then killed himself in their rented apartment in Bhopal’s Misrod area. The event took place on the night of Wednesday-Thursday at Green Park Colony.
The deceased jawan has been identified as Ravikant Verma. He reportedly called the police control room around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, stating that he had shot his wife, Renu Verma.
Upon receiving the call, a team from the Misrod police station quickly responded and arrived at the scene, where they found both Ravikant and Renu lifeless in a pool of blood within their home.
The couple’s two young children—a six-year-old son and a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter—were discovered in a different room, crying. A service revolver was located near the bodies.
Initial investigations reveal that Ravikant shot Renu before turning the gun on himself. The bodies of the couple, aged 35 and 32, respectively, have been sent for post-mortem examinations at AIIMS Bhopal.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots and noted that the couple frequently had loud arguments, although the motive behind this tragic event remains unclear. Ravikant Verma, stationed at a CRPF camp in Bangrasiya, had been living with his family in the nearby Green Park colony.
Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra confirmed the incident, stating, “We have received information about a CRPF jawan who shot his wife and then himself with his service revolver. An investigation is ongoing.” Authorities are currently trying to determine the reasons behind the incident and are questioning relatives and neighbors. They plan to seek assistance from the CRPF camp in Bangrasiya.
