Prayagraj: In a magnificent display of faith, over 296.4 million devotees gathered at the sacred Sangam for a holy dip in the Triveni waters on Friday morning during the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025, as reported by the Uttar Pradesh Information Department. Among these, more than 1 million Kalpwasis and over 3.3 million pilgrims participated in the ritual.

As of January 30, the total number of devotees who have taken part in the Mahakumbh reached 296.4 million, showcasing a remarkable turnout at the Triveni Sangam for this significant event.

Devotees from various regions expressed their joy at attending the festival. One devotee from Telangana remarked, “We get just one chance to be born as a human being, and we are very lucky to witness this Mahakumbh Mela.” He praised the government’s organization, highlighting the availability of essential facilities like drinking water, transportation, sanitation, and security, and encouraged all Hindus to attend.

A foreign devotee from Nepal shared a positive experience, contrasting it with the negative rumors he had heard, describing it as peaceful. Riya, who traveled from Lucknow, found the experience surreal and noted that the arrangements were satisfactory, stating, “The snan was amazing.” Bablu, visiting from Gopalganj in Bihar, echoed similar sentiments about the grand arrangements.

Meanwhile, DM Prayagraj, Ravindra Kumar Mandar, clarified that there would be no vehicle entry restrictions in Prayagraj on January 31, February 1, and February 4. He stated that the diversion scheme would only be in effect on February 2 and 3. Mandar dismissed viral claims about vehicle restrictions until February 4 as unfounded, explaining that the scheme was only implemented for the peak day of Mauni Amavasya. He assured that barricades would be removed and that the police would inform the public about vehicle entry into the Mela Kshetra.

On Thursday, the Yogi Government announced that VIP movements would be restricted on major bathing days, ensuring that all VIPs and VVIPs would not receive special privileges during significant festivals like Vasant Panchami, Magh Purnima, and Mahashivratri, as well as the days surrounding them.

Additionally, a three-member judicial commission has started investigating the tragic stampede that occurred during the Prayagraj Mahakumbh on Mauni Amavasya, resulting in 30 fatalities. The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, will continue until February 26, with significant bathing dates remaining on February 3 (Basant Panchami—Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
