Jalandhar: In Jalandhar, Punjab, the district administration has announced to close the meat and liquor shops on 11 and 12 February on the occasion of Prakash Utsav of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji Maharaj. The birth anniversary of Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji is being celebrated with great joy across the country on 12 February. This decision has been taken regarding this. A grand procession will be taken out in the city on 11 February on the occasion of Prakash Utsav.
District Magistrate Jalandhar Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said – This step has been taken keeping in mind the religious sentiments of the people and to maintain law and order in view of the Prakash Utsav of Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji on February 12 and the Shobha Yatra being taken out by various religious organizations on February 11 in this regard.
In view of the situation of law and order, using the powers conferred under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023, the sale of meat and liquor has been prohibited on the procession route and near the procession site on February 11 and 12, 2025.
