Jind: Farmers have made the Khatkar toll plaza located on the Delhi-Patiala National Highway in Jind, Haryana free. The toll will remain free till 4 pm. Farmers have spread their mats and sat here.
Farmers allege that toll employees misbehave with the leaders of farmers’ organizations. Farmer leader Sikkim Safakhedi said that recently while going to a meeting in Delhi, the toll employees misbehaved with the leaders of the farmer organization Jhanda Singh.
He said that the managers of the toll plaza are not even providing facilities. The highway is broken at many places. Whereas they charge toll of Rs 180-190 from small vehicles and up to Rs 600 from big vehicles.
State President of All India Kisan Sabha Master Balbir Singh, Baljeet Mandi, Satbir Kharal said that the farmers’ organization and public organizations are protesting against the dictatorship of the managers of Khatkar Toll Plaza, their rudeness with passersby, indiscipline and mismanagement. According to the rules, all the facilities that should be available at the toll are not available at Khatkar Toll Plaza.
He said that it is our right to get all the services that the government and toll managers had promised us in return for the services. The struggle will continue until we get all those facilities. At present, around Rs 200 is being charged as toll from Khatkar toll, while there are no facilities. After making the toll free, the farmers’ organization will submit a memorandum to all the MPs across the state on February 8 and 9.
According to information, 7 to 8 thousand vehicles pass through this toll every day. 8.5 to 9 lakh rupees are collected every day.
