New Delhi: Voting for the Milkipur bye-election in Ayodhya district, Uttar Pradesh, commenced at 7 am on Wednesday. A total of 370,829 voters are set to cast their votes to determine the fate of 10 candidates competing for the seat.

The key candidates for this important Assembly seat are Chandrabhanu Paswan from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Ajit Prasad from the Samajwadi Party (SP).

The Milkipur constituency is designated for Scheduled Castes (SC), and the election is drawing considerable attention due to its political implications in the state. The stakes have heightened following the SP’s unexpected win in the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat last year, shortly after the Ram temple’s inauguration in Ayodhya.

To ensure a transparent and orderly election process, extensive security measures have been put in place. Webcasting will be available at 210 polling stations, and videography will be conducted at 25 stations.

Additionally, 71 polling stations will have micro observers, supported by nine flying squads, nine static monitoring teams, six video monitoring teams, two super zonal magistrates, four zonal magistrates, and 41 sector magistrates overseeing the election.

The Milkipur bypoll has become a significant contest between the Samajwadi Party and the BJP, with both parties making strong efforts to win the seat.

The results of this bypoll will not only impact local politics but also reflect the sentiments of voters in Uttar Pradesh, which is vital for the upcoming elections. As voting begins today, attention will be focused on voter turnout and the outcome, which will significantly influence the political landscape in the region.
