Ensure purchase of cabbage on the lines of Haryana’s BJP government: Vineet Joshi targets Punjab Govt

Joshi demanded that if Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is truly sympathetic to the farmers, then he should immediately ensure the purchase of cauliflower from the farmers at Rs 7.50 per kg on the lines of the BJP government of Haryana.

Chandigarh: Under the rule of the Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, farmers are getting the price of cauliflower between Rs 1 to Rs 2 per kg and on the other hand, farmers in Haryana are getting Rs 7.50 under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana of the Bharatiya Janata Party government, which clearly shows that BJP is farmer friendly. This is the statement of Punjab BJP state media chief and former media advisor to Chief Minister of Punjab Vineet Joshi.

Joshi demanded that if Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is truly sympathetic to the farmers, then he should immediately ensure the purchase of cauliflower from the farmers at Rs 7.50 per kg on the lines of the BJP government of Haryana.

Joshi said that cauliflower is cultivated in about 55,000 acres in Punjab, but farmers are not even getting the cost of their produce. Farmers are unable to take cauliflower to the market or bear the cost of plucking. He said that due to the negligence of the government, farmers are forced to plough cauliflower in the fields itself. Earlier, the Punjab government did not give any compensation when the pea crop was destroyed last year. Apart from this, despite the central government sending Rs 44,000 crore for paddy procurement, there was a cut in paddy procurement in the state, but the Chief Minister remained silent on this too.

Punjab government should learn from Haryana

Citing the example of Haryana, Joshi said that the BJP government there has been continuously providing minimum support price (MSP) on 16 vegetables and 5 fruits under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana since 2018. These vegetables include tomato, onion, potato, cauliflower, ladyfinger, gourd, bitter gourd, brinjal, carrot, cabbage, chilli, capsicum, peas, radish, turmeric and garlic, while fruits include mango, guava, kinnu, plum and litchi. In contrast, in Punjab, farmers were neither compensated nor any concrete policy was made on vegetable and fruit crops. Joshi said that the condition of potato and tomato farmers is also worse.

Joshi again demanded that if Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is truly sympathetic to the farmers, then he should immediately ensure purchase of cabbage from farmers at Rs 7.50 per kg on the lines of Haryana’s BJP government
