Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has sanctioned ₹176.5 crore to Telangana as part of the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme.

States can receive this funding as an incentive for reaching specific milestones. According to the ministry’s announcement, Telangana has successfully met the criteria for Milestone 1 and Milestone 2 of Initiative A and Milestone 1 of Initiative B. This makes the state eligible for ₹125 crore from Initiative A and ₹51.5 crore from Initiative B.

For Milestone 1 of Initiative A, Telangana has implemented a Motor Vehicle Tax concession, which qualifies for an incentive of ₹50 crore. In Milestone 2 of Initiative A, the state proposed a plan to scrap government vehicles older than 15 years, thereby earning an incentive of ₹75 crore based on the vehicles scrapped.

Under Milestone 1 of Initiative B, Telangana has awarded contracts for Automated Testing Stations (ATSs) across 37 districts, with 21 located in priority districts. The incentives for this initiative amount to ₹31.5 crore for priority districts and ₹20 crore for non-priority areas, totaling ₹51.5 crore.

Additionally, Telangana’s Minister for Roads and Buildings, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, has instructed department officials to expedite road construction under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). He emphasized adhering to regulations for three key categories: missing link roads to district headquarters, roads connecting these headquarters to the state capital, and the enhancement of existing road infrastructure. The minister convened a meeting with senior officials to assess the progress on HAM roads and urged the identification of consultants for detailed project reports, prioritizing roads in poor condition.
