Washington: Former President Donald Trump announced plans to sign an Executive Order next week aimed at reversing the Biden administration’s promotion of paper straws, citing their ineffectiveness. He criticized the initiative as “ridiculous,” asserting a return to plastic straws. In a post on X, Trump stated, “I will be signing an Executive Order next week ending the ridiculous Biden push for Paper Straws, which don’t work. Back to plastic!”
This announcement follows Trump’s earlier executive order to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, similar to his actions during his first term. The Paris Agreement is a global effort to tackle climate change, with commitments from nearly 200 countries to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius, aiming for 1.5 degrees. However, the pact is non-binding.
Additionally, Trump criticized the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), claiming that its financial management is “fraudulent” and that the agency should be shut down. He accused USAID of contributing to widespread corruption and mismanagement. In a post on X, he stated, “USAID is driving the radical left crazy, and there is nothing they can do about it because the way in which the money has been spent, so much of it fraudulently, is totally unexplainable. The corruption is at levels rarely seen before. Close it down.”
Notably, White House Press Secretary Karoline Levitt had previously criticized USAID’s expenditures, specifically calling out projects like a $1.5 million initiative for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in Serbia, a transgender opera in Colombia, and a DEI musical in Ireland, labeling them as “wasteful spending.” She emphasized that as a taxpayer, she does not support funding such initiatives and noted that Elon Musk has been assigned by Trump to address these concerns.
