New Delhi: There is a new update on Indian fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah’s back injury. Bumrah will start rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

He was scanned at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy on Friday. According to TOI, the scan report has been discussed between the medical team and the BCCI. Now, his physical activity will be focused on for the next 24-48 hours. During this time, he is likely to start some gym work and light bowling.

Whether Bumrah will play or not in the Champions Trophy will depend on this report. Currently, he is included in the squad. Bumrah was selected in the team for the ODI series being played against England. However, a day before the start of the series, Varun Chakraborty has been included in his place.

If there is even a 1% chance, BCCI will wait

A source told TOI, “If there is even a 1% chance of Bumrah being fit, BCCI can wait.” The board did the same with Hardik Pandya in the 2023 ODI World Cup as they waited for almost two weeks before bringing in Prasidh Krishna as a replacement.

BCCI had advised 5 weeks of rest

Bumrah was injured on 3 January in the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Then the BCCI medical team had advised that he cannot do any kind of gym or exercise for the next 5 weeks, he needs to take complete rest.

Changes can be made in the teams till 11 February.

India’s selection committee announced the Indian team for the Champions Trophy on 18 January. Jaspreet Bumrah, who was injured on the Australia tour, was also included in the team. The selection committee kept Arshdeep Singh as Bumrah’s backup. At the same time, ICC has set a deadline of 11 February for changes in the squad for the tournament.

India will face Pakistan on 23 February

The Indian team will play its first match in the Champions Trophy against Bangladesh. This match will be played on 20 February at the Dubai International Stadium. The team’s second match will be against Pakistan on 23 February and the third match will be against New Zealand on 2 March.
