Haryana Municipal Election Nominations begin; BJP-Congress yet to release candidate list

Panchkula: Nominations for civic elections in Haryana will begin today (11 February). Applications will be accepted from 11 am to 3 pm. Mayors and councillors will be elected in 8 municipal corporations in the state. Only mayors will be elected in 2 municipal corporations. Elections will also be held for 4 municipal councils and 21.

Mayors and councillors will be elected in 8 municipal corporations in the state. Only mayors will be elected in 2 municipal corporations. Elections will also be held for 4 municipal councils and 21 municipalities.

The nomination process will continue till February 19. However, nominations in Panipat Municipal Corporation are to start from February 21. BJP and Congress have not yet announced their candidates. INLD will hold a meeting in Sirsa today. JJP has not shown any movement regarding the elections yet.

4 important things related to civic elections…

1. Candidates will have to disclose their criminal record and property

All candidates will have to issue a declaration form and give details of their criminal record and property. This declaration form will have to be published in newspapers.

2. The ballot paper will have the photo of the candidate

To avoid any confusion among the voters, the ballot paper will also have the photo of the candidate. 4500 booths will be made for voting. Around 10 thousand EVM machines will be used in the election.

3. 10 thousand security for mayor, candidates will be able to spend 30 lakhs 

Candidates will also have to deposit security. Mayor candidate will have to give 10 thousand, councillor 3 thousand, city council president 5 thousand, city council member 1.5 thousand, municipal council president 3 thousand and member 1.5 thousand security.

4. Mayor can spend 30 lakhs in election campaign

Mayor candidates can spend up to 30 lakhs in the election. Apart from this, corporation councillor candidates can spend 7.5 lakhs, city council president candidates 20 lakhs, city council member candidates 4.5 lakhs, Nagar Palika 12.50 lakhs and members can spend up to 4.5 lakhs.

5. It is necessary to pass 10th standard from general category

For the post of Mayor of Municipal Corporation and Nagar Parishad and Nagar Palika Pramukh, general category men should have passed 10th standard and women, Scheduled Caste women and Scheduled Caste men should have passed 8th standard. For the post of councillor, general category men should have passed 10th standard, women and Scheduled Caste women should have passed 8th standard and Scheduled Caste women should have passed 5th standard.
