Chandigarh: Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad elections will be held in Punjab before 31 May. The Election Commission has also made full preparations in this regard. Issuing a notification, the Election Commission has said that elections will be held before 31 May.
There are 153 Panchayat Samitis and 23 Zila Parishads in Punjab. The election dates will be announced keeping in mind the board exams and the procurement of wheat for the Rabi season.
If we talk about last year, Lok Sabha elections, by-elections and corporation elections were going on. In the Lok Sabha elections, Congress won 8 seats but Aam Aadmi Party won in the by-elections. In the corporation elections too, Aam Aadmi Party got mixed support from the people.
Now there are assembly elections in 2027. Before that it is very important for the government to win the Panchayat and Zila Parishad elections. These elections are especially in rural areas, so whichever political party wins this election, it will get to know the vote bank base in the rural areas of Punjab. The current government is also now engaged in getting every development work done to win these elections. After the defeat in Delhi, now the Aam Aadmi Party does not want to lose Punjab.
