Washington: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the US on Thursday morning on a two-day visit. During this visit, PM Modi will meet President Trump at 2:30 pm Indian time on Friday night. In this meeting, the two leaders will discuss many issues including tariffs and illegal Indian immigrants.
Modi and Trump will talk for about 45 minutes. After this, a joint press conference can be held at 3.40 pm on Friday night as per Indian time. After reaching America, the Indian PM first met US National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard.
Apart from Trump, PM Modi will also meet many business leaders and people from the Indian community. Before reaching America, Modi was on a visit to France. Here he co-chaired the AI Summit with the French President and discussed many bilateral issues.
PM Modi and Tulsi Gabbard discussed many issues
The meeting between PM Modi and Tulsi Gabbard, who comes from the American Hindu community, is very important. Just yesterday, the US Senate confirmed the appointment of Tulsi Gabbard as the National Intelligence Director. Tulsi will now take charge of 18 intelligence agencies of America including the CIA and NSA.
PM Modi congratulated Tulsi Gabbard during the meeting. The two leaders talked about increasing mutual cooperation on counter terrorism, cyber security and emerging threats.
PM Modi will have dinner with Trump
According to media reports, Modi’s delegation will attend a total of 6 meetings. After the meeting with President Trump, Modi will attend a state dinner. The Indian PM’s visit to America is taking place at a time when the capital Washington is in the grip of cold due to snowfall and hail.
PM Modi will stay in the President Guest House i.e. the luxurious Blair House. It is right in front of the White House. World leaders stay in this guest house.
This is Trump’s fourth meeting with a foreign head of state after becoming president for the second time. Before this, he has met the Prime Minister of Israel, the Prime Minister of Japan and the King of Jordan.
There can be talks on tariffs and illegal immigrants
Donald Trump has announced to impose tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China after coming back to power. However, he later gave relief to Canada and Mexico in the tariffs for 30 days.
Trump has criticized India’s high tariff rates many times. However, till now he has not imposed any kind of tariff on India.
According to Pew Research, more than 7 lakh 25 thousand illegal immigrants live in America. Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) said in November 2024 that so far 20 thousand 407 Indians without valid documents have been identified.
