Shimla: The Congress government has brought a big change in the education department. Along with increasing the number of teaching days in government schools, it has also been decided to start a bag-free day. After this decision, children will come to school without bags every Saturday.
This will reduce the burden of school bags from children’s shoulders. Children will be able to participate in various activities according to their interest. There is a provision of bag-free day in the National Education Policy-2020. The government has released the academic calendar and holiday schedule last evening.
School will be open for 243 days
Till now, there were 185 teaching days in the government schools of Himachal. But from the new academic session, their number has been increased to 243. Along with this, the government has also released the schedule of holidays for schools having winter and summer vacations.
Winter-summer school holiday schedule
Schools with winter vacations will have winter break from January 1 to February 11 and monsoon break from July 21 to 26. The result of non-board classes will be declared on December 31.
Summer closing schools will have winter break from 11 to 16 January on Lohri and monsoon break from 22 June to 29 July. The result of non-board classes will be declared on 31 March. Admission will start from 1 April.
Calendar of sports competitions
The education department has also released a separate calendar for sports activities. Block level competitions for the under-14 category will be held from 27-29 April, district level from 18 to 20 May and state level from 11 to 12 October. Block level competitions for the under-19 category will be held from 10 to 12 May, district level from 29 to 31 May and state level sports competitions from 11 to 12 October.
An important change has also been made in the academic calendar that the Deputy Commissioner’s right to grant holidays has been abolished. Apart from this, students will also be given education related to the ill effects of drugs and traffic safety.
Result on 31 December
In schools having winter vacation, the result of annual examination will be declared on 31 December. On this day, Shiksha Samvad program will also be organized. Programs like National Mathematics Day, World AIDS Day, Children’s Day, International Science Day, 15 August will also be organized in schools.
DC has no power to declare holidays
In the tentative schedule released by the education department two months ago, there was a proposal to give the power to give some holidays to the DC. But after the protest by the teachers, the government has reversed the decision of giving the power to give holidays to the DC.
