Gujarat: Three illegal Indian immigrants from Gujarat, who had been deported from the United States, arrived in Ahmedabad. This marked the arrival of the third group of deportees that had been sent back to India, following a recent plane landing in Amritsar, Punjab, which brought 112 individuals believed to have illegally migrated to the US.
Amritsar’s Deputy Commissioner, Sakshi Sawhney, confirmed the number of deportees on the flight that arrived the previous day. Punjab’s Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, assured that the deportees would receive proper treatment and that arrangements were in place for their care. He stated that they would be held in Amritsar for a few hours before being sent to their home states, with flights coordinated by the Ministry of External Affairs already booked.
This was not the first instance; a US Air Force plane had previously brought Indian citizens back to Amritsar on February 5. Additionally, on February 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s readiness to repatriate its nationals living illegally in the US and emphasized the urgency of addressing human trafficking networks. He expressed confidence in cooperation from US President Donald Trump in combatting these trafficking problems.
