Every year a large number of people visit the museum

Let us tell you that every year a large number of people visit the historical museum of Kangra. People buy tickets here and see the ancient objects from the times of kings and Maharajas.

The fort was built by the Rajput family of Katoch dynasty

The Kangra Fort was built by the Rajput family of the Katoch dynasty. It is the largest fort in Himachal and the oldest fort in India. In 1615, the Mughal emperor Akbar tried to siege the fort but failed. Later in 1620, Akbar’s son Jahangir captured the fort by forcing the king of Chamba (who was the biggest of all the kings in the region) to surrender.

The kings of Katoch constantly plundered the Mughal controlled areas due to the weak control of Mughal rule and the decline of Mughal power. In 1789 Raja Sansar Chand saved the ancient fort of his ancestors. Then Maharaja Sansar Chand fought many wars with the Gorkhas, in which there were Gorkhas on one side and Sikh king Maharaja Ranjit Singh on the other.

Now this museum is being run by former Union Minister Chandresh Kumari.
