New Delhi: On Sunday, President Droupadi Murmu paid homage to the notable religious figure and social reformer Swami Dayanand Saraswati in honor of his birth anniversary. She highlighted how his educational initiatives and reform programs have significantly contributed to social progress. In a message shared on X, President Murmu stated, “I offer my respectful tribute to Swami Dayanand Saraswati, a cornerstone of India’s renaissance, on his birth anniversary. The educational and social reforms initiated by him have been pivotal in fostering positive change in society. His teachings remain ever-relevant. Inspired by his vision to restore the ancient glory of our nation, let us collectively strive towards making India a developed nation.”
Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, who was born on February 12, 1824, established the Arya Samaj in 1875 to address social inequalities. His birth anniversary is observed annually on the 10th day of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Phalguna, and this year it is being commemorated on February 23. This year marks 201 years since the birth of the Arya Samaj founder, and the organization is also celebrating its 150th anniversary since its formation in April 1875. The Arya Samaj has played a significant role in the cultural and social awakening of India by promoting education and encouraging social reforms.
