Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047 outlines a transformative journey for India’s development, with Gujarat leading the way through significant accomplishments. Recognizing agriculture as essential to the nation, PM Modi launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana’ (PM-KISAN) to empower farmers and enhance rural prosperity. Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, Gujarat has effectively implemented PM-KISAN, benefiting millions of farmers.

Since the scheme’s initiation in Gujarat in February 2019, the state has disbursed Rs 18,813.71 crore to 66.65 lakh farmers, with funds transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts across 18 instalments up to January 2025. The state registered 28 lakh farmers within just 24 days of the scheme’s launch, showcasing efficient execution.

Launched on February 24, 2019, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana aims to provide financial support to landholding farmer families, offering Rs 6,000 annually in three instalments directly to their bank accounts, ensuring transparency and efficiency. The scheme defines a farmer family as a husband, wife, and their minor children, with beneficiary identification managed by State Governments and UT administrations to ensure targeted implementation.

To promote transparency and accountability, the Government of Gujarat has established a multi-layered verification system. Starting with the 12th instalment, land seeding became mandatory for farmers to access benefits. From the 13th instalment onward, linking Aadhaar and activating Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) became necessary. By the 15th instalment, e-KYC was introduced for enhanced security. Village-level nodal officers also conduct physical verification of 5 to 10 percent of beneficiaries to confirm eligibility, and the government is actively reclaiming funds from ineligible recipients.

Farmers can self-register on the PM-KISAN portal using their land ownership documents and Aadhaar details. The Jan Samvad programme under the CM Dashboard allows for direct feedback from beneficiaries, improving real-time monitoring and transparency in implementation. Since the 13th instalment, benefits have been transferred to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the DBT system. Beneficiaries can check their payment status on the PM-KISAN portal, which provides details such as the credited bank name, account number, transaction date, and UTR number. The Jan Samvad programme also collects feedback to ensure smooth and effective scheme implementation.

Gujarat remains dedicated to farmers’ welfare and transparent governance, ensuring the effective rollout of PM-KISAN. By providing financial security to farmers, the state continues to bolster its agricultural sector and drive sustained growth, as noted in the statement.
