Preparation intensify for de-addiction campaign in Punjab: DC ordered to inspect de-addiction centres

According to a state government spokesperson, as per the instructions of the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary KAP Sinha has directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to take strict action against drug abuse in their respective districts. He said that rehabilitation and de-addiction centres should be fully equipped with medicines, testing kits and necessary staff so that drug addicts can be treated properly.

IAS Sandeep Kumar will inspect

Under this campaign, IAS officer Sandeep Kumar will visit all the de-addiction centres and take stock of their condition. He will submit a direct report of any kind of deficiency or negligence to the government. The state government has made it clear that this campaign will be monitored at a high level and any kind of negligence will not be tolerated.

Instructions to Deputy Commissioners to complete preparations in two days

Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha issued the order saying that all the Deputy Commissioners will have to fully equip the de-addiction centres in their districts within two days. Availability of necessary medicines, buprenorphine, testing kits and adequate medical staff will have to be ensured in these centres.

He also clarified that if any deficiency is found in the arrangements of rehabilitation centres in any district then strict disciplinary action will be taken against the concerned officer.

The government expressed its strong intention and aimed to make Punjab drug free

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has made its intention clear to make the state drug-free. The government will not only take strict action against drug smugglers and suppliers, but will also fully equip rehabilitation centers to bring drug addicts into the mainstream of society.

This campaign will be run simultaneously in all the districts of the state and will be monitored at a high level. The government says that this is not just a formality but an important step towards making Punjab drug-free.
