At the same time, the Meteorological Department has also issued a yellow alert regarding strong winds with thunderstorms. Hailstorms may also occur at some places in the state on 27 and 28 February.
This situation is arising due to the activation of Western Disturbance. At the same time, the average maximum temperature has dropped by 2.2 degrees in the last 24 hours. However, it remains close to normal. During this time, the average maximum temperature in Mohali and Patiala has been recorded as the highest in the state at 26.2 degrees.
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is likely in 23 districts of Punjab today. The districts where thunderstorms and lightning are likely include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Moga, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Sangrur and Barnala.
According to the department, the maximum temperature is likely to increase by 2 degrees in the next 48 hours, after which the temperature will fall by 3 to 5 degrees in the next 48 hours. Similarly, the minimum temperature will increase first, after which no change will be seen. The department has advised people not to take shelter under trees.
