Beirut: A drone strike carried out by Israeli forces resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to two others in the Shaara area of Janta, situated near Lebanon’s eastern mountain range.
Additionally, Israeli troops deployed illumination flares between the village of Alma al-Shaab and the town of Naqoura in southern Lebanon, as reported by Xinhua news agency, citing the state-run National News Agency (NNA).
A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, which came into effect on November 27, 2024, has halted nearly 14 months of conflict ignited by the Gaza war. This agreement stipulates an Israeli military withdrawal from Lebanese territory; however, Israel continues to occupy five positions along the border, despite a deadline for withdrawal set for February 18.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel’s military announced new airstrikes in southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah sites. It claimed that these strikes hit infrastructure associated with weapons following the identification of “Hezbollah activity.”
The military accused Hezbollah of conducting military operations in southern Lebanon, thus violating the terms of agreements between Israel and Lebanon. Furthermore, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that Israeli forces launched two drone strikes on Wadi Zibqin in the western sector of southern Lebanon and also dropped flares over the Al-Dar area, located in the central sector of the southern border region.
