Surat: Firefighting teams are actively working to extinguish a blaze that erupted at a textile store in the Shiv Shakti market of Surat on Wednesday morning. The fire, which started earlier, has prompted a rapid response from authorities to manage the situation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhagirath Gadhavi stated that the area has been cordoned off as teams work to control the flames. “Fire brigade teams are currently tackling the fire at the Shiv Shakti cloth market. The entire area has been secured; police have evacuated everyone and are deployed extensively to ensure safety. We are also managing traffic in the surrounding areas. All teams are on-site, and because there are other shops nearby, police presence is necessary for their protection. The Shiv Shakti market has 800 shops, all of which are closed, and surrounding markets have also shut down,” DCP Gadhavi informed ANI.

Earlier, Chief Fire Officer Vasant Parekh mentioned that extinguishing the fire would take time. “The fire has spread from the basement to the first, second, and third floors, and it will take a while to put it out,” Parekh said. He also noted that although some firefighters were initially trapped, they have since been rescued, and 15 teams are on the scene. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties. This incident marks the second fire in the area within a span of less than 24 hours, impacting over 800 stores.
