Punjab’s famous singer Guru Randhawa wrote a big statement about the Punjabi language on his social media account. Guru Randhawa said that Punjabi language should be compulsory for every student studying in Punjab, no matter which board he studies in.

Expressing his pride in his mother tongue, Guru Randhawa said, “It is our pride and identity. We respect all languages, but Punjabi is our culture and roots. My whole existence is because of my language and Punjabi songs.”

Describing himself as “always a proud villager, proud Punjabi and proud Indian”, he said it was everyone’s responsibility to promote the Punjabi language.

Sirsa hits back at AAP-Akali leaders

Manjinder Singh Sirsa said CBSE has already clarified that there has been no change in the subjects and the list given on the website is only indicative. Punjabi language exam will be included and all the current subjects will continue in the two-board exam system. AAP and Akali leaders are creating unnecessary confusion. Stop misleading students for petty politics.

An addendum issued by the board’s examination controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said: “This is with reference to the draft policy for conduct of two board examinations of class 10 released on 25.02.2025 on CBSE website. It is clarified that the list of other subjects and languages ​​being offered at present will continue in 2025-26 also.”

What was the controversy

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has prepared a draft of the new pattern for class 10th. Politics heated up on the issue of Punjabi subject in it. AAP accused the central government of removing Punjabi.

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains alleged that the Central Government and CBSE have deliberately removed Punjabi from the exam pattern. This is a setback to Punjab. Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal also termed the removal of Punjabi from CBSE’s new pattern as wrong. He said that the Akali Dal will oppose it. Punjabi subject should be restored immediately in CBSE schools as well.
