Hoshairpur: Punjab Vigilance Bureau, as part of its campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested Alok, a revenue department employee posted as reader of Naib Tehsildar, Hoshiarpur, red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 8000.
Giving information in this regard, a spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said here today that the accused has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by a resident of Shimlapuri, Ludhiana.
He further said that the complainant contacted the Vigilance Bureau and told that under the orders of Deputy Commissioner Hoshiarpur under the SARFAESI Act, the Naib Tehsildar had given possession of a property to his firm and in return for sending the report of this possession to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the said reader had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000, but on the request of the complainant, the accused agreed to take a bribe of Rs 8000.
The spokesperson further said that after preliminary investigation of the complaint, the team of Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 8000 from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.
He said that in this regard a case has been registered at Jalandhar Range Police Station of Vigilance Bureau under Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is underway to ascertain the role of other persons in the case.
