Shimla Mayor presents budget of 188 crores: Announces multi-purpose mall with 500 crores

Shimla: Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surendra Chauhan presented the budget for the financial year 2025-26 on Thursday. He presented a budget of Rs 188.35 crore for the development of the city. This budget is about Rs 59 crore less than the previous financial year 2024-25. The mayor announced in the budget that a multi-purpose mall.

Shimla: Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surendra Chauhan presented the budget for the financial year 2025-26 on Thursday. He presented a budget of Rs 188.35 crore for the development of the city. This budget is about Rs 59 crore less than the previous financial year 2024-25.

The mayor announced in the budget that a multi-purpose mall equipped with modern facilities will be set up in the commercial area. It will cost Rs 500 crore. This mall will be spread over an area from Cart Road to Sabzi Mandi, Lower Bazaar and Mall Road.

The Mayor said, the Municipal Corporation will prepare an Integrated Smart Solid Waste Management System. Rs 3 crore will be spent on this project.

A survey of pet and stray dogs will be conducted in the city. All dogs will be micro-chipped. Dogs that have not been sterilized will be sterilized.

Shimla Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Tourism Department will work on a plan to show various places and heritage buildings of the city to the tourists visiting Shimla city through e-cart.

People will be made aware by running a campaign against drug addiction in all the wards of the Municipal Corporation.

The Municipal Corporation will install Pink Toilets for women within the corporation premises with modern facilities.

5000 trees will be planted in Shimla.

Priority will be given in providing new shops and parking to widows and handicapped persons within the limits of Shimla Municipal Corporation.

The Municipal Corporation will install 1000 solar lights in Shimla city.

The Municipal Corporation will convert its vehicles into e-vehicles in a phased manner.

Vending zones will be created for street vendors in Sanjauli. Rs 15 crore will be spent on this.

Shimla Municipal Corporation will build its premium guest house near Kamala Nehru Hospital.

CNG and petrol pumps will be installed near IGMC.

Emphasizing on new income sources

Mayor Surendra Chauhan said that the budget is Rs 188.35 crore. Efforts are being made to increase the income along with providing good facilities to the people of the city. He termed the questions being raised by the BJP on the budget as politics.

There is nothing new in the budget, it is a copy of last year’s budget: BJP 

BJP councillors have called this budget a copy of last year’s budget. Councillor Saroj Thakur from Rulda Bhatta said that there is nothing new in the budget. The people of Shimla have been deceived by repeating the previous budget and presenting it in a populist manner.

He said that there is no new announcement for the workers who maintain cleanliness in the city. He said that it was said that 24-hour water supply will be provided to Shimla residents by June but there is no mention of it.
