Ahmedabad: On Saturday, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the Ahmedabad Railway Station Redevelopment Project and reported that 360 km of the Bullet Train project has been completed, with significant advancements in the Maharashtra section. He noted that a delay of two and a half years, caused by permission issues with former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, is being resolved. Vaishnaw stated, “We are working to make up for the two and a half years lost due to the permissions denied by Thackeray.” He also mentioned that the Maharashtra segment is progressing well, with “almost 2 km of the undersea tunnel already completed.”
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu inspected the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project for the first time and lauded it as a significant advancement in India’s infrastructure. He emphasized that the project aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a modern railway network and has created nearly 100,000 jobs. Bittu expressed his admiration for the initiative, stating, “This is PM Modi’s vision. The concept he has is excellent, and the execution of this project is commendable.” He highlighted the necessity of high-speed rail for global connectivity, noting that the project is steering India towards ‘Vikshit Bharat.’ While praising the swift progress in Gujarat, he mentioned that the pace in Maharashtra is slower due to ongoing land acquisition issues.
Bittu commended the officials for their rapid work, citing that a 40-meter bridge span is being constructed in just 16 hours, illustrating the construction speed. The Bullet Train project, developed in collaboration with Japan, represents a significant leap in infrastructure development, expected to enhance regional connectivity, economic growth, and job creation in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The MAHSR project will connect major business centers such as Mumbai, Surat, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad, traversing high-growth areas in both states, with a total sanctioned budget of Rs 1,08,000 crore.
