New Delhi: Union Health Minister JP Nadda launched the Jan Aushadhi Raths to mark the beginning of Jan Aushadhi Saptah, which will be observed from March 1 to March 7. During the event, Nadda announced the government’s ambitious goal of establishing 20,000 Jan Aushadhi centres by the end of 2025 and reaching 27,000 centres by 2027, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He highlighted that the initiative began with just 80 centres and has now expanded to 15,000, with plans to increase to 20,000 by the end of this year and 25,000 by next year.
Minister of State Anupriya Patel added that various events will be held throughout the week to raise public awareness about Jan Aushadhi. She emphasized that the program aims to lower medicine costs by offering affordable alternatives.
Patel also mentioned that sanitary pads are available for women at a nominal price of Rs 1 at Jan Aushadhi Kendras, promoting awareness of menstrual hygiene.
The ‘Jan Aushadhi Saptah’ is a key component of the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), which seeks to ensure accessible and quality healthcare by providing affordable generic medicines. The Jan Aushadhi Raths will travel across the Delhi-NCR region to inform people about the benefits of these centres and enhance access to effective generic medications.
