War against Drugs: 52 accused arrested, 827g heroin, 2 kg poppy husk, 2090 intoxicant tablets and other substances recovered in district

Ludhiana: A day after Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann gave a three-month deadline to wipe out drugs from the state, a massive cordon and search operation (CASO) was carried out in entire Ludhiana district on Saturday by Ludhiana city police, Khanna police as well as Ludhiana Rural police. The police arrested a total of 52.

A day after Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann gave a three-month deadline to wipe out drugs from the state, a massive cordon and search operation (CASO) was carried out in entire Ludhiana district on Saturday by Ludhiana city police, Khanna police as well as Ludhiana Rural police.

The police arrested a total of 52 accused and recovered 827g heroin, 2 kg poppy husk, 2090 intoxicant tablets, 150g opium, 700g charas, 50 injections, 21g intoxicant powder, a car and seven mobile phones during the operation ‘War Against Drugs (Yudhh Nashya Virudhh)’.

The localities were sealed off as police teams conducted house-to-house searches. The operation was aimed to tighten the noose around drug peddlers and criminals.

In Ludhiana city, the search operation was carried out at different hotspots including Dr. Ambedkar Nagar in Model Town area, Sahnewal, Dugri and others and of the total arrests, the city police have arrested 34 persons and registered 18 FIRs.  The police have recovered 804-gm heroin, 1850 intoxicant tablets, 50 injections, 21-gm intoxicant powder, 700-gm charas and a car (PB01-E-0886).

Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal led the operation in Dr. Ambedkar Nagar. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police Jaskiranjit Singh Teja, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Ramandeep Singh Bhullar, ACPs — Gurdev Singh, Aakarshi Jain and Ashok Kumar and concerned SHOs.  During interaction with the locals, the residents gave inputs to the police chief about those involved in supplying drugs in the area.

Chahal said that exemplary action will be taken against all those involved in drug peddling. “As of now three houses of drug smugglers have been demolished by the city police and such operations and much stricter actions will be seen in coming days,” he said while adding that there are strict guidelines from the CM Punjab to act against the smugglers and criminals made Punjab drug free.

“People have started sending us information about the drug peddlers and I appeal the residents to give information about drug trafficking activities to the police or contact the department’s confidential tipline,” he said.


14 arrested by Khanna Police during searches in Khanna, Samrala and Payal

During the cordon and search operations (CASO) conducted at five crime/drug hotspot locations in Khanna, Samrala, and Payal sub-divisions of district, the police arrested 14 persons and registered four FIRs along with recovering 20g heroin, 150g Opium, 7 stolen mobile phones and 150 lomotil tablets. The teams also searched 66 suspects and 35 vehicles during the operation.

The force was led by six DSPs, seven SHOs, 165 personnel in 13 teams headed by their incharges under the supervision of SSP Jyoti Yadav Bains.
DIG Nilambari Vijay Jagdale was also present on the occasion.


4 arrested and 4 FIRs registered by Ludhiana Rural police

Ludhiana Rural police arrested four drug peddlers and registered four FIRs while recovering 2 kg poppy husk, 90 intoxicant tablets and 3g heroin from their possession.

There were total 182 personnel including a Superintendent of Police, three DSPs and 178 NGO/EPOs who carried out searches in different areas including Gandhi Nagar, Rani Wala Khun in city Jagraon, Kul Gehna village in Sidhwan Bet area, Prem Nagar, Indra Colony in Dakha, Guru Nanakpura in city Raikot, and other areas of Sadar Raikot and Hathur.

During the operation, 35 suspects were also checked and three vehicles were challaned.
