Champhai (Mizoram): Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Mizoram Police, seized methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 60.63 crore in the Champhai district of Mizoram. This operation took place on February 28 in the area of Crossing Point One, Zokhawthar.
The official post on X read, “Assam Rifles, together with Mizoram Police, recovered Methamphetamine tablets weighing 20.209 kgs worth Rs 60.627 Crores in the general area of Crossing Point One, Zokhawthar, Champhai District, Mizoram on 28 Feb 2025.” During the operation, three individuals were apprehended, and arms and ammunition were also recovered.
In another operation on February 27, security forces carried out an intelligence-based mission in Lawngtlai town, Lawngtlai district, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of ammunition. In the Saiha area, a different operation led to the apprehension of one individual along with a .22mm Air Carbine and ammunition. All arrested individuals and recovered items were handed over to the Mizoram Police for further legal action.
In addition to these operations, security forces also carried out multiple search missions in vulnerable areas on the border of the hill and valley districts.
Meanwhile, members of the ‘Arambai Tengol,’ a Meitei organization, surrendered their weapons to the Manipur government after meeting with the state’s Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on February 25. This move follows efforts by the District Police, Assam Rifles, and CRPF to raise public awareness, encouraging people in Manipur to surrender illegally held weapons. Furthermore, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, visited Manipur last week to assess the situation along the Indo-Myanmar Border and review ongoing border infrastructure developments in the state.
