Ambala: The ancient Sheetla Mata fair will be organized on March 18 at Jagadhauli village in Mullana of Ambala district in Haryana. The preparations for organizing the fair are going on in full swing. This is a very old and traditional fair. This fair is organized every year on the Tuesday after Holi in the temple premises located in Jagadhauli village. It is believed that here the devotees pray that their children remain safe and away from diseases. On the fulfillment of the wish, as per tradition, the devotees offer a clay pot to Kandara. For security, the fair will be monitored through CCTV.
Lakhs of devotees from Punjab, Himachal, Uttar Pradesh and other states come here to pay their obeisance.
Devotees from far and wide come to the fair and get their children’s first tonsure done. It is believed that after the tonsure of children here, they always remain healthy. Mata Sheetla takes away all their diseases. Along with this, newly married couples also come to pay obeisance.
The feast is held at midnight
Sheetla Mata is worshipped on the first Tuesday after Holi. Sheetla Mata is worshipped with due rituals. Complete care is taken of purity. In this special worship, stale food or Basoda is used to offer to the goddess a day before. The offering of stale items is offered to Sheetla Mata. Jagadhauli Sarpanch’s husband Randeep Rana said that the worship and offering will be done on Monday and Tuesday at 12 midnight. This fair is no less than a festival for the village. All the villagers give their full cooperation in this fair.
Sheetla Mata is worshipped as a major Hindu goddess. It is believed that She is the goddess who cures diseases like smallpox. By worshipping on this day, the goddess is pleased and all the diseases caused by Sheetla are cured i.e. diseases like burning fever, yellow fever, smallpox, foul smelling boils, eye disorders etc. are cured. Shitala Mata is considered the presiding goddess of cleanliness. Therefore, the ritual of worshipping Sheetla Mata is completely important.
