Gandhinagar (Gujarat): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on March 7 and 8, 2025, with a key event scheduled for March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day. During his visit, he will travel to Navsari district, where he will attend the ‘Lakhpati Didi Sammelan’ at Vansi-Borsi. At this event, the Prime Minister will distribute over Rs 450 crore in financial aid to more than 2.5 lakh women from over 25,000 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across Gujarat.

The ‘Lakhpati Didi Yojana,’ launched by PM Modi on August 15, 2023, aims to empower women by recognizing those who earn at least Rs 10,000 a month and have an annual income of Rs 1 lakh or more through various activities like agriculture, animal husbandry, and small businesses. Nearly 1.5 lakh women in Gujarat have already reached this status, thanks to the efforts of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

At the Sammelan, nearly 100,000 women from the Navsari, Valsad, and Dang districts will participate, with many being self-help group members who have either achieved or aspire to achieve ‘Lakhpati Didi’ status. PM Modi will interact with 10 selected ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and will present certificates to five of them. A film showcasing the success of the Lakhpati Didi Scheme in Gujarat will also be screened. Additionally, two major state-specific schemes will be launched during the event.

One of the new schemes is G-SAFAL (Gujarat Scheme for Antyodaya Families for Augmenting Livelihoods), which will target women from Antyodaya families. The scheme will benefit 50,000 families from the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) in two aspirational districts and 13 talukas of Gujarat. It will provide financial aid and entrepreneurial training to women in SHGs from these families, with Rs 1 lakh given to each SHG woman and vocational training provided. The total financial assistance for this initiative will be Rs 500 crore over five years.

The second scheme, G-MAITRI (Gujarat Mentorship and Acceleration of Individuals for Transforming Rural Income), will focus on supporting rural startups and promoting social entrepreneurship in Gujarat. The Gujarat Social Enterprise Fund (G-SEF) has allocated Rs 50 crore over the next five years to aid startups aimed at improving rural livelihoods. G-MAITRI will empower 10 lakh rural women and youth by offering livelihood opportunities. It will support over 150 startups, providing grants of Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh to help develop rural-based enterprises.

On International Women’s Day, PM Modi and CM Bhupendra Patel will celebrate ‘Women-Led Development’ by providing financial support to Lakhpati Didis and launching these important schemes to enhance women’s economic empowerment in Gujarat.
