Driver alertness saves many lives as HRTC bus catches fire

The incident took place near the Housing Board of Shingla.

A major accident was averted on Wednesday in Rampur of Shimla district. A Himachal Path Parivahan bus of Rampur depot suddenly caught fire at 11:30 am. Due to the alertness of bus driver Madan, all the passengers were saved.

The incident took place near the Housing Board of Shingla. Bus driver Madan was stopping the bus to seat the passengers. During this time, he saw smoke coming out from inside the bus. Immediately showing presence of mind, he asked all the passengers to get out of the bus. In a short time, the entire bus caught fire and was reduced to ashes. The fire brigade team reached the spot and controlled the fire.

Local people have expressed displeasure over the functioning of Himachal Path Parivahan. They say that old buses are run on this route. These buses often break down on the way, causing trouble to the passengers. There are about 15 such buses in Rampur depot which have completed their life span. Despite this, they are being run on rural routes.
