Himachal shines in Khelo India Winter Games after securing 2nd place, wins 18 medals

Himachal Pradesh has performed brilliantly in the 5th Khelo India Winter Games 2025 played in Gulmarg, Kashmir.

Manali: Himachal Pradesh has performed brilliantly in the 5th Khelo India Winter Games 2025 played in Gulmarg, Kashmir. Himachal won a total of 18 medals and secured second place in the country. The Army team stood first with 7 gold medals, while Himachal won 6 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze medals.

This competition of ski and mountaineering race was played in Gulmarg from 9 to 12 March. On the first day of the championship, the team won silver and bronze medals in the women’s vertical race. On the second day, gold and silver medals were won in the same event. On the third day, bronze medal was won in men’s relay race and on the fourth day, gold medal was won in women’s relay race.

State association member Kapil Negi attributed this success to the training camps of Manali MLA Bhuvaneshwar Gaur. The State Ski Mountaineering Championship held in Hamta, Manali in January has also enhanced the skills of the players.

National Ski Mountaineering Federation President Praveen Sood said that a long-term plan has been made for the development of this sport in India. With the cooperation of the International Ski Mountaineering Federation, this sport will be taken to new heights.

Will get first place next time: Kavita

Himachal team’s Chief-de-Mission and international Kabaddi player Kavita Thakur said that despite not getting enough training time, the team performed better than last year. The Army team won seven gold medals in Khelo India, while Himachal got six. She set a target of securing first place in the upcoming competitions.
