Hyderabad: The death of a man in police custody in Nizamabad, Telangana, has sparked tension after his family accused the police of torturing him, leading to his death.

Sampath Kumar died while in the custody of the Cybercrime police on Thursday night. As news of his death spread, his relatives and friends gathered near the government hospital and staged a protest, demanding justice. To maintain order, the police increased security in the area.

The family alleges that Sampath was subjected to torture while in custody, which they believe caused his death. They have called for a high-level investigation into the incident.

Sampath, who worked at Srirama International Manpower, had been arrested recently along with another person after complaints of cheating were lodged by two individuals who went to Gulf countries through the manpower agency. The accused were later sent to judicial custody. On Thursday, the Cybercrime police took Sampath into custody for further questioning, following a court order.

Sampath was taken to Jagitial town for the recovery of money related to the case and returned to the Cybercrime police station that night. He reportedly complained of pain in his left hand and was rushed to the government hospital, where he died while being treated.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Raja Venkat Reddy told the media that Sampath was in good condition when he was taken to the hospital, and he collapsed and died in the presence of doctors. The police informed the family of Sampath’s death, and his body was later sent for an autopsy. A team of three doctors will conduct the autopsy.

The police have registered a case regarding Sampath’s death, and the ACP stated that a judicial magistrate would carry out the investigation into the family’s allegations.
