According to reports from the Houthi-run Health Ministry, US airstrikes in Yemen have resulted in at least 53 deaths, including five women and two children, and left around 100 others injured. These airstrikes targeted Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and other regions, including Saada, a key Houthi stronghold near the Saudi Arabian border. The Houthis have vowed to escalate the conflict in retaliation.

On March 15, former US President Donald Trump confirmed that he had ordered powerful military action against the Houthis, citing their ongoing attacks on US assets. Trump criticized the previous administration’s response, calling it weak, and emphasized that the Houthis’ actions had disrupted global trade and posed a significant risk to international shipping. He vowed to use “overwhelming lethal force” to protect American assets and restore freedom of navigation in global waterways.

Trump also warned the Houthis to cease their attacks or face severe consequences, stating, “hell will rain down upon you like nothing you have ever seen before,” and called for Iran to immediately stop supporting the Houthi rebels.

Since October 2023, following the Hamas attack on Israel, the Houthis have escalated attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, further disrupting international trade.
