Chennai (Tamil Nadu): The Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) of Tamil Nadu has arrested five individuals, including two women, in connection with an attack on the residence of YouTuber Savukku Shankar in Chennai, according to an official report.

Savukku Shankar claimed that his home was vandalized as retaliation for revealing a purported scam involving the distribution of vehicles equipped with jet-routing machines to Dalit entrepreneurs. He alleged that this scheme, financed by both the central and state governments, was intended to assist impoverished Dalits and those living below the poverty line. However, Shankar stated that many of the 130 beneficiaries of the program are, in fact, above the poverty line.

He explained, “I exposed a scam concerning the distribution of these vehicles to Dalit entrepreneurs, who are supposed to be poor. Yet, most beneficiaries of the scheme are above the poverty line.”

After bringing the scam to light, Shankar reported that an FIR was lodged against him by the Chennai City police. He noted, “After I revealed this scam, the Chennai City police registered an FIR against me. When they couldn’t succeed in booking me, they resorted to this attack. I specifically accuse TNCC President K. Selvaperunthagai of orchestrating this assault.”

Due to Shankar’s allegations against the Greater Chennai Police and its Commissioner, the case was handed over to the CBCID for an independent investigation. The police explained in a statement that Shankar, during an interview, made serious allegations against the Greater Chennai Police and its Commissioner. Consequently, the Commissioner requested that the case be transferred to another agency for further investigation, leading to its reassignment from the G-3 Kilpauk Police Station to the CBCID.
