New Delhi: Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav accused the government of hastily passing the Waqf Amendment Bill, claiming it was done to intentionally disrupt the country’s harmony. Speaking to ANI, she stated, “The Opposition parties oppose this bill. The government enacted it in an arbitrary manner… Their aim is to create discord in the country.”
Former MP and Samajwadi Party leader ST Hasan described the bill as “unconstitutional,” warning that it might be rejected by the Supreme Court. “This bill undermines our constitutional right to manage our religious institutions… Can anyone point to a Muslim in any temple trust?” Hasan questioned.
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari also expressed opposition, calling the Waqf Amendment Bill contrary to the Constitution’s fundamental principles. He explained, “This goes against the Constitution’s spirit. According to Rule 37, the Rajya Sabha’s session ends at 6 PM, and it wasn’t extended. An 8-hour discussion was meant to occur from 1 PM to 9 PM, but voting took place at 2:20 AM, and the session lasted until 4 AM. This is illegal… When this reaches the Supreme Court, it will be labeled unconstitutional. We will advocate against this, and many organizations will join the effort…”
The Parliament passed the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 in the early hours of Friday following a long and intense debate. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced the results with “Ayes 128 and Noes 95, Absent zero,” confirming the Bill’s passage. Additionally, the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2024, was also passed by Parliament.
