New Delhi: The highly anticipated Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) will officially launch in Delhi on Saturday, representing a significant advancement in healthcare access for the city’s most vulnerable populations.

The Delhi government is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the central government to implement the scheme and extend health benefits to the poorest families. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta confirmed that the MoU would be finalized on Saturday, making the Ayushman Bharat health coverage available to Delhi residents.

Gupta highlighted that this initiative would bolster the city’s healthcare system, providing essential support to families in need. The announcement followed a crucial meeting chaired by Chief Minister Gupta on Friday, which included Cabinet ministers and senior officials from the health department.

The decision to proceed with the scheme has been recognized as a key development in enhancing public health services in the national capital.

Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, eligible families in Delhi will receive annual health coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh. This amount will consist of Rs 5 lakh from the central government and an additional Rs 5 lakh from the Delhi government as a top-up.

The scheme guarantees free and cashless treatment for various medical services, encompassing 1,961 procedures, medications, diagnostics, hospitalizations, surgeries, and ICU care.

Currently, 91 hospitals have been empaneled under the scheme, including 46 private hospitals, 34 Delhi government hospitals, and 11 central government facilities, to provide these services.

This initiative comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi approved the scheme following their return to power in February, ending a 26-year absence. The scheme was approved during the first Cabinet meeting after Chief Minister Gupta and her ministers took office on February 20, 2025.
