The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has cautioned travellers that flight operations across northern India may face delays and disruptions due to dense fog and a severe cold wave sweeping the region. Poor visibility is expected to affect airport schedules at several major hubs, especially during early morning hours.
Dense fog has significantly reduced visibility at airports including Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, as well as in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, prompting warnings from both AAI and the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has issued a yellow alert for cold conditions in northwest India, with fog expected to persist.
AAI has urged passengers to check real‑time flight status with their airlines, allow extra travel time, and stay updated before heading to airports to avoid inconvenience. Assistance teams have reportedly been deployed at affected airports to support stranded passengers, while airlines like IndiGo, Air India, and others have provided travel advisories citing possible delays and schedule changes due to low visibility.
The severe weather has not only impacted air travel but also road and rail transportation across the region. Train services have reported delays due to foggy conditions, and road traffic has slowed because of poor visibility on highways. Dense fog and cold conditions continue to disrupt daily life in many parts of North India.
Officials are stressing safety and preparedness, encouraging travellers to plan ahead and factor in additional time for airport check‑in and boarding processes. Passengers are also advised to stay in contact with airline helplines and official airport communication channels for the latest updates on flight operations.
