Mumbai: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has reportedly received an alleged threat through a viral Facebook post, prompting Mumbai Police to begin verifying its authenticity. However, police officials said that no formal complaint has been filed by the actor or his team so far.

According to Mumbai Police, the alleged threat came to their attention through media reports. Authorities said they are examining the viral social media post before deciding on further action.

Police awaiting formal complaint

The viral Facebook post, reportedly linked to individuals claiming association with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, contains allegations against Aamir Khan and warns of consequences over claims related to promoting “love jihad.”

Mumbai Police said they have not independently verified the authenticity of the post. Officials added that the actor or his representatives have not approached the police with any complaint regarding the alleged threat.

Police said a detailed investigation will be initiated if a formal complaint is lodged.

Aamir recently clarified ‘3 Idiots’ inspiration

Separately, Aamir Khan recently clarified during the London Indian Film Festival that his character Phunsukh Wangdu from the 2009 film 3 Idiots was not based on educationist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk.

The clarification came after an audience member asked whether Wangchuk had inspired the iconic character. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, 3 Idiots starred Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi and remains one of Bollywood’s most successful films.

As of now, Mumbai Police continue to verify the viral post, while no official complaint has been submitted by Aamir Khan or his team.
