AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal inspects flood affected areas in Delhi, urges aid and support from government

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday visited flood-affected areas in Shastri Park, Delhi, to assess the situation firsthand. Speaking to reporters, he said that residents were facing multiple hardships, including delays in food distribution, mosquito infestation, and inadequate drinking water facilities.

“Government Must Fulfil Its Duty”

Kejriwal stated that several tents at relief camps were set up only the previous day despite continuous rain. He urged the government to immediately provide all essential facilities, stressing that it is their responsibility to ensure relief.

The AAP chief added that waterlogging in several parts of Delhi is a result of delayed desilting and uncleared drains, which has led to sewer backflow. He emphasised that while floods are a natural calamity, the administration must act to minimise public suffering.

Appeal to Centre for Nationwide Flood Relief

The former Delhi CM called on the Union Government to extend maximum possible assistance to flood-hit states across North India, including Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Uttarakhand. He noted that while the Centre had provided earthquake relief to Afghanistan, similar attention should be given to states currently battling floods.

Yamuna Above Danger Level, Evacuations Underway

Parts of Delhi and the NCR remain inundated due to the rising Yamuna river following heavy rainfall. At 7 a.m. Friday, the river at Signature Bridge was flowing above the danger mark of 205.33 metres. Evacuations are triggered at 206 metres, and residents in low-lying areas have been moved to relief camps, including those near Mayur Vihar Phase-1.

IMD Forecast for NCR

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Noida will see a partly cloudy sky today and tomorrow, with a possibility of rain or thundershowers on September 7 and September 10.
