AAP-Congress clash in Punjab Assembly, Bhagwant Mann says Congress has no issues to raise

Chandigarh: Tensions escalated between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress in the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accused Congress of disrupting proceedings. He said Congress leaders repeatedly walk out of the House and do not participate in the proceedings despite demands for a session.

The controversy escalated further when some Congress MLAs were prevented from entering the Assembly premises on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “Congress’s only job is to create ruckus and walk out of the House. When the Assembly session is not convened, they complain, but when it is convened, they either do not come or are unwilling to sit in the House. The truth is that Congress has no real issues to raise.”

Congress leaders prevented from entering the Assembly

According to reports, some Congress leaders, including Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Pratap Singh Bajwa, and Pargat Singh, were prevented from entering the Assembly premises.

During this period, an altercation broke out between Aam Aadmi Party MLA Jasvir Singh Raja Gill and senior Congress leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa.

The altercation occurred while Punjab Minister and AAP leader Dr. Balbir Singh was addressing the media. Dr. Balbir Singh accused the opposition of causing political disruption by preventing a government minister from speaking to the press.

Pratap Singh Bajwa objected to the obstruction of entry

During the start of Question Hour, Congress Legislature Party leader Pratap Singh Bajwa strongly objected to the obstruction of Congress MLAs from entering the House. Congress MLAs protested against this decision.

On the matter, Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan clarified that no MLA can be prevented from entering the House, except those currently under suspension.

Partap Singh Bajwa also alleged that the notice issued preventing the MLAs from entering did not bear the Speaker’s signature.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Bajwa said, “It has never happened in Punjab’s history that any elected representative has been prevented from entering the Assembly. Even if Sukhpal Singh Khaira was suspended, he still has the right to enter the Assembly premises. After that, the Speaker can prevent him from participating in the proceedings.”

He further stated that he had asked the Speaker whether this was the Punjab Assembly or Kabul? Is there Taliban rule here or does the Indian Constitution apply? According to Bajwa, the Speaker did not answer his question.

He also questioned the alleged unsigned notice issued by the Secretary, asking why an unsigned order should be followed.

Congress Protests by Burning AAP’s Election Symbol, the Broom

Earlier, Congress MLAs protested outside the Punjab Assembly by burning the ruling Aam Aadmi Party’s election symbol, the broom. Congress protested against the government’s alleged failures on various key issues.

Dressing in black and carrying placards, the Congress MLAs shouted slogans against the Aam Aadmi Party government. This incident in the Assembly premises further highlighted the growing conflict between the AAP and Congress in Punjab politics.
